Niall..This has been my philosophy for almost twenty years..since marriage when I needed desperately to be taught. My husband and two older kids left for a third world country this past weekend to build houses. His goal was not to build a house and leave..but to teach the community how to use practical everyday lessons that would ENABLE them to maintain a functional working community as well as one day be able to teach others. I too will book mark your site! Thanks for the visit and encouraging words! Ciao..

Hi,

Found your blog via Betumiblog quite by chance - will be back asap... could not agree with you more...
Ghanaian by birth, of British Nationality - my entire adult life has been devoted to helping others - not by assisting, but by sharing skills that help those in need help themselves...

The latest NGO I created with family and friends to help the worst hit Tsunami areas of SW Sri Lanka (I was in the country days before the disaster) will soon be ceasing activity as we have succeeded in creating enough work to keep the villagers (all poor fishermans widows and their children) in full time employment (market gardening, sewing, basic computing, carving..)which means they can pay a token rent which is then used to run the village school, pay for water purification...etc...
Our aim from the start was to help them become self-sufficient asap...
I'm listing you in my "favourite" list - à bientôt :)
