Christina O Superyacht - Photos Interior

Christina O is one of the world's longest private motor yachts at 325 feet 3 inches (99 m). She was originally a Canadian River-class frigate called HMCS Stormont and was launched in 1943. She served as a convoy escort during the Battle of the Atlantic and was present at the D-Day landings.[1] After the end of the Second World War she was one of many surplus naval vessels and Greek shipowner Aristotle Onassis purchased her for just $34,000. He spent $4 million to convert her into a luxurious yacht and renamed her Christina after his daughter.

The yacht was designed by Cäsar Pinnau and the childrens room was designed and painted by the illustrator Ludwig Bemelmans.

Apart from Onassis's mistress Maria Callas and his wife Jackie Onassis other celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Eva Peron have sailed on her. She was one of the most famous society venues of the mid 20th century: John F Kennedy first met Winston Churchill on board in 1957.

Motor Yacht Leander - Photos Interior

In the late 1980s, the British officer commissioned a new Katalina. Kusch wanted to use aluminium, and in light of the fall of the Berlin Wall, commissioned East German experts Peene Werft to build the yacht. The yacht hence has a steel construction hull with a bulbous bow and a classic canoe stern, topped by a three deck aluminium superstructure - having six decks in total. After shipping to Hamburg, the arrangement of the interior accommodation was undertaken jointly by English designers Katalin Landon & Pauline Nunns Associates, and interior decorator Heinz Vollers of Hamburg. She was refitted in 1998 and 2001.

Part way through fit-out, the British officer was taken ill, and decided to keep Katalina2. Flush from the sale of his interests in NCP car parks, former Royal Navy officer Sir Donald Gosling took over the final stages of the build at what was described as an excellent price. A later owner of the original Amels-built Katalina1, delivered in December 1992, Gosling named the yacht M.Y. Leander after the first Royal Navy ship he served on.

How To Get A Job On A Superyacht

One of the questions that most people ask is "how to get a job on a superyacht". It certainly is a dream job and one that many young people all over the world are keen to get as it leads to a lifestyle of traveling the world while making lots of money and living rent free. Who wouldn't want a job on a superyacht? With that in mind we wanted to create a list of all the best places to get jobs and how to start finding your dream job on a Superyacht....

Getting Started

If you have no experience at all in working on yachts there are 2 main types of jobs that you will be able to get. For boys you can become a deckhand (lots of manual labor and basically cleaning the outside of the boat). If you are a girl you can become a stewardess (basically cleaning the inside of the boat and looking after the guests). The good news is that you can work your way up from there. There are other specialized jobs including Engineers, Chefs, Captains, Maseurs etc but you'll need specific qualifications for those. The good news is that for those specific jobs you will be able to pretty much walk in to a job.

Find A Crew Agency

There are lots of crew agencies around the world and you'll find a full list of those on Google. The main hubs for finding crew are in Antibes (South of France) for European jobs and Fort Laurderdale in Florida for Superyacht jobs in the USA and Caribbean.

Find A Job Day Working

One of the main things that you will have to start doing as a beginner looking for a job on a superyacht is to start day working. This means working for about $100 a day and you'll literally have to walk along the docks asking for work. It is quite common to find work on a superyacht because they often need an extra pair of hands to clean a boat between trips. This may open up in to a more full time position.

Drink In The Bars Around A Port

It might seem odd to go drinking to find a job on a yacht but the logic here is that all the captains and crews on superyachts spend a lot of their time drinking around the ports. Get to know them socially and a job on a boat might just open up.

A look at Ferretti Yachts - Video

Ferretti Yachts

When one given passion continues for over four decades, it becomes history. Brothers Alessandro and Norberto Ferretti founded Ferretti in 1968, a symbolic year for the history of both the world and the sea. Three years later, in 1971, their first wooden motor sailer enjoyed great success when presented at the Genoa Boat Show. Fitted with both a sail and an engine, the yacht was 10 metres in length and especially comfortable for cruises. The brothers’ lucky intuition meant that soon afterwards Ferretti was listed amongst the most prestigious shipyards in the world.
In 1982, Ferretti presented its first motor yacht and began building sport fisherman models too, both open and flybridge. These yachts already featured revolutionary innovations which are still applied throughout the nautical industry today: a stern helm position, swinging windows in the salon which open out onto the cockpit, and an internal passage from the salon to the flying bridge. The nineties were characterised by research and development within the sphere of nautical engineering through establishment of the Engineering division, and winning performances in Offshore competitions. Over the next few years, the company expanded to encompass its current range, renewed year after year with cutting-edge design solutions.

Concept Video - Oculus Superyacht

Probably now more than ever with the global economy the way it is, designer E. Kevin Schöpfer's "Oculus" yacht is the stuff of dreams. Yet dreamy it is. At 250 feet long and featuring 12-foot ceilings, it's one roomy way to travel over the high seas at 25 knots. Its hull is prominently styled after the creatures of the sea, with an open-mouth-like backside and something looking a bit like an eye socket.

The Oculus is just a concept, but it's the flagship design for Schöpfer's new yacht line. Check out the gallery below for more of the Oculus.

Dubai - 2nd largest yacht in the world (Video)

Formerly known under the project names "Panhandle" and "Platinum", the yacht was built by Blohm + Voss and Lürssen.[2]

It was bought by Platinum Yachts FZCO of Dubai, UAE, and shipped to Dubai in a floating dock. The partly finished steel hull and superstructure were completed by Platinum Yachts, who also managed the interior design to match the requirements of the new owner, completed the interior and exterior outfitting of the yacht and delivered the vessel in 2006 complete with full Lloyds Register certification.[citation needed]

In 2008, the vessel's air conditioning installation was upgraded to suit the Middle East climate conditions in order to cope with the higher heat load as experienced in the Persian Gulf region. (Her original design specifications were based upon Mediterranean conditions.
